Employability Skills

How can you improve your chances of getting the Apprenticeship you want and being successful in the future career? Your grades and achievements may not be enough when competing against 50 students that are also applying for the same placement. You need to stand out above the rest.

It may seem a difficult task to build up a showcase of all your employability skills when you are still in full time education. You may feel that you have little to offer since you have not yet had a job.

Employability skills are a mix of hard skills, soft skills and transferable skills that show you can work well with others, apply knowledge to solve problems and fit into any work environment. There are many ways in which you can demonstrate different employability skills and it’s important that you start building up your examples.

To understand the difference between hard skills, soft skills and transferable skills access our Getting Career Ready presentation, where you will find lots of guidance, examples and activities you can take part in (select the Understanding Employability Skills section from the front page).

The next section in this topic will only cover how to evidence your soft skills, so its important you read through the Getting Career Ready presentation first.
