March 2023 NEWSLETTER
Let’s LOOK BACK …
We are into the middle of March and as always HEON have been busy with workshop delivery, liaising with a huge number of your schools and lots more.
January and February have been jam-packed with activity, we saw one of our flagship programmes, ‘FOCUS’, come to an end with around 40 students across 3 schools participating; Christs College, Cove School and Alderwood Senior School. The programme was received extremely well and feedback from both students and teachers has been fantastic. We are really looking forward to bringing this to schools next academic year. If your school is interested in taking part next year please get in touch – email@example.com.
Our ‘Attainment Raising’ pilot programme has gone from strength to strength with Collingwood College students gaining crucial mentoring from Royal Holloway student ambassadors in both English and Maths.
February saw us welcome students from The Beacon School for one of our ‘Taster Days’ – it was a great opportunity for students to be exposed to a higher education setting at the University of Surrey and to gain a real insight into student life from University of Surrey student ambassadors.
In addition to the above the team also delivered further workshops to a number of schools including; ‘Intro to Higher Education’, ‘Student Finance’ and a variety of creative workshops in partnership with University for the Creative Arts.
Each month we’ll be looking to give you an insight into what’s upcoming for the following month.
March sees the continuation of ‘Foresight’ at Fernhill School.
This programme continues to work alongside a number of students of black heritage within the school, we work with the students on a variety of topics such as exam prep/etiquette, wellbeing, and navigating school as a student of black heritage.
Spring University is fast approaching (April 3rd – 5th), unfortunately the application deadline has now passed. We are really looking forward to welcoming students from a number of our partner schools!
If you would like to book any activity in preparation for the Spring/Summer term please do not hesitate to get in touch.
We look forward to working with your school soon!
Getting to grips with finance
Every month HEON will be highlighting one activity from our brochure. This will give you an insight into what we can offer your students. This month we will be taking a look at our ‘Getting to Grips with Finance’ workshop.
Managing money and understanding finance at University is a daunting prospect for a number of students. This workshop will give students an understanding of a variety of topics such as ‘What is Student Finance?’, ‘Understanding Finance & Debt’ and ‘Is University Affordable?’.
This session can be delivered both face to face and online. Face to face sessions cater to a maximum of 30 students, online can cater to an unlimited number. Session lasts up to one hour and typically suits the needs of Year 10 – 13 students.
We are always willing to tailor sessions/workshops to suit the needs of your students, if you would like to discuss this opportunity please do not hesitate to get in touch. Feel free to get in touch with your designated Partner Officer or Nathan Simpson to enquire about a finance workshop.
If you would like to discuss any of the activities above then please feel free to get in touch with your allocated Partner Officer or Nathan Simpson directly.
