March 2023 NEWSLETTER

Let’s LOOK BACK …

We are into the middle of March and as always HEON have been busy with workshop delivery, liaising with a huge number of your schools and lots more.

January and February have been jam-packed with activity, we saw one of our flagship programmes, ‘FOCUS’, come to an end with around 40 students across 3 schools participating; Christs College, Cove School and Alderwood Senior School. The programme was received extremely well and feedback from both students and teachers has been fantastic. We are really looking forward to bringing this to schools next academic year. If your school is interested in taking part next year please get in touch – n.simpson@surrey.ac.uk.

Our ‘Attainment Raising’ pilot programme has gone from strength to strength with Collingwood College students gaining crucial mentoring from Royal Holloway student ambassadors in both English and Maths.

February saw us welcome students from The Beacon School for one of our ‘Taster Days’ – it was a great opportunity for students to be exposed to a higher education setting at the University of Surrey and to gain a real insight into student life from University of Surrey student ambassadors.

In addition to the above the team also delivered further workshops to a number of schools including; ‘Intro to Higher Education’, ‘Student Finance’ and a variety of creative workshops in partnership with University for the Creative Arts.

If you would like to discuss any of the activities above then please feel free to get in touch with your allocated Partner Officer or Nathan Simpson directly.

What’s UPCOMING?

Each month we’ll be looking to give you an insight into what’s upcoming for the following month.

March sees the continuation of ‘Foresight’ at Fernhill School.

This programme continues to work alongside a number of students of black heritage within the school, we work with the students on a variety of topics such as exam prep/etiquette, wellbeing, and navigating school as a student of black heritage.

Spring University is fast approaching (April 3rd – 5th), unfortunately the application deadline has now passed. We are really looking forward to welcoming students from a number of our partner schools!

If you would like to book any activity in preparation for the Spring/Summer term please do not hesitate to get in touch.

We look forward to working with your school soon!
